How We Can Help

Breaking Barriers for Life runs a range of structured, evidence-based group programs designed to support caregivers, parents, and adults in learning practical strategies to manage daily challenges, build confidence, and strengthen family connections. Each program is neuro-affirming, family-centred, and grounded in best practice, helping participants feel understood, supported, and empowered. Programs are held at Hervey Bay Neighbourhood Centre, in a welcoming space with smaller group sizes to allow deeper connections, handouts and visual supports, and a certificate of attendance provided at the end.

Caregiver Support Group

A free monthly group for parents and carers of children, teens, or adults with additional needs or lifelong disabilities. This group has been running for over 3 years and provides a safe, supportive space to connect, share experiences, and learn practical strategies.

Creating Harmony at Home – Parenting Program for Neurodivergent Families

A neuro-affirming coregulation program that helps caregivers understand their child or teen’s needs, stay calm during escalations, and support emotional regulation at home. Programs are tailored to each family based on a comprehensive support needs assessment.

Transformative Change Program (Women with complex needs and Disabilities)

A 4-part program designed to help women experiencing chronic depression, anxiety, complex life issues, and disabilities develop resilience, build mental strength and develop practical life skills, transforming pain into purpose. Focused on holistic growth and wellbeing, it covers self-love, self-care, safety, and overall personal development.

Social Stencil Program

An evidence-based program for neurodivergent children to build confidence, understand relationships, and learn conflict management in a fun and engaging way. Social Stencil supports children and their caregivers to understand individual differences and work positively within their environments.
